Perhaps an area that can sometimes be overlooked, roadside verges are an important feature of the Darent Valley landscape. They help soften the visual and noise impact from nearby main roads and provide a home and corridor between areas for surrounding wildlife. As with any habitat, these areas need to be maintained and looked after.

Kent Wildlife Trust manages four Roadside Nature Reserves (RNRs) in the Darent Valley and these have been designated for their range of flowers, including many species of orchid. Connect Plus Services manage the soft estate beside the motorway network of the M25, M26, M20 and A2 within the Darent Valley who are actively involved with DVLPS.
