This project will enhance the woods by upgrading walking routes and interpretation, and creating better links with surrounding communities.

Shoreham Woods Country Park serves as a key gateway to the wider landscape of the Darent Valley, particularly for nearby urban communities in South East London. Our Shoreham Woods – the Darent Valley’s Hidden Gateway project aims to improve visitor experience and accessibility, creating a more welcoming and safe countryside site.

Existing walking routes will be upgraded, improved interpretation provided, and better links established with surrounding communities (particularly Shoreham) through the development of new additional events.

  • Country park enhancements
  • Improved interpretation
  • Events to link with local communities

Best way to travel

The site can be reached from the A224 at the top of Polhill. Heading towards London, turn right at the roundabout just past the nursery into Shacklands Road. The entrance to the car park shown on the map is 400 yards on the right. The car park closes at 5pm in the winter and 7pm in the summer and re-opens at 7am.

The nearest stations are at Shoreham, 1 mile from Meenfield Wood and Knockholt, 1.5 miles from Andrews Wood.
