This project will improve the Darent Valley Path through resurfacing, waymarking, and promoting access.

The Darent Valley Path is a popular walking route and at its current length is walkable in a single day. There are also a series of circular walks off the path.

Improvement work, as part of our Heart of the Valley project, will help to promote the path as a great way to experience the beautiful landscape of the Darent Valley. Where possible we will make provision for cyclists to either use the path or an alternative parallel route, and enhance links to train stations to encourage sustainable travel.

Waymarking and interpretation along the route will be updated to provide a better understanding of the heritage features and we will include Google Trekker street view images of the entire route. Investigations to extend the Darent Valley Path from Chipstead to Westerham to provide a ‘complete’ Darent Valley experience are underway.

Best way to travel

The waymarked path is 19 miles (30.4km) long, following the meandering river from the banks of the busy River Thames at Dartford through the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the Greensand Hills above Sevenoaks. The path is most easily accessed by train from Dartford or Sevenoaks
